The $8 Face

Contributor: Dr. Salar Parvini

According to a widely referenced survey done by SkinStore (www.skinstore.com) in 2017 the average woman in the united states spends nearly $300,000.00 on her face over a lifetime.  Yes, you read that correctly! In fact, the average woman in the united will spend $8.00 a day on her between her skincare and makeup making the annual cost of your skincare and makeup regimen over $2,900.00!

In addition to this financial cost, there’s the time sink.Depending on who you ask, you will get anywhere from a 2 step to a 17 step beauty routine, and that doesn't include makeup.  It has become nearly as extensive and exhaustive as going to the gym.  In fact many beauty editors have gone on record that their beauty routines are nearly 45 long!

When we set out on our journey to optimal skin health, we knew that it didn't matter if we had “Holy Grail” skin care products if our clientele weren’t going to use them properly.  Routines need to be safe, effective, and compatible.  There’s no point in applying a product to your skin if you are not getting the maximum benefit.  Additionally, the products should not interact with others and ideally they should synergize.  It is also just as important that you use your products as directed.

Everything in nature (and society) moves towards maximum efficiency as we move forward in time.  So too does skincare.  One of the tenets of our skincare routine in user compliance.  You are far more likely to use your products twice daily as directed if your routine is under 5 minutes.  Depending on which study you reference you will see that patient compliance figures in the United States can range from 40-50% for drug therapies and a whopping 35% for physical therapy!  In my own practice I found these figures to be far worse.  So we knew that when we made skin care recommendations for our clients that it had to be easy.

When you look at the Saffron and Sage skincare line you’ll find 5 essentials that when used twice daily as directed will give you everything you need to achieve your optimal skin health:  A makeup remover, facial cleanser, a vitamin and mineral serum, a moisturizer, and vitamin infused facial oil to lock it all in.  The entire set should take you about 4 minutes to use in the morning, and 5 minutes at the end of the day.

One question we get a lot is “What about toner?!”.  Toner is actually an unnecessary step that can do more harm than good for most people.  It strips the natural oils from your skin and may disrupt your moisture barrier.  It is far better to have pH balanced steps throughout your routine than it is to balance it with only one product that may be too harsh for most people - even those with “oily skin”.  Also, don't forget to use a good quality sunscreen with an SPF rating of 30 or higher (used before makeup is applied) before leaving the house.

When using the Saffron and Sage system  you will find that over time you will have nourished your face with a multitude of vitamins, minerals, and active compounds that will leave your skin feeling clean, hydrated, moisturized and radiant all for under 10 minutes a day and half the cost*!
