Holistic Skincare | Spring Detox

So now that we are on a month-long staycation, in an effort to help flatten the curve of the covid-19 crisis, let’s use this as an opportunity to reset our skin. When else are you going to get a month to go makeup free? We have all heard of the side effects of wearing makeup (allergies, premature aging, clogged pores, reproductive organ damage to name a few) and since as of April 6th we are being asked to wear masks, now is the perfect time!

So let's set the ground rules:

  1. No makeup of any kind for 30 calendar days.
  2. No tinted moisturizers, BB creams, CC creams
  3. Saffron & sage Skincare routine morning and evening

As for our morning routine we will be using steps 2-5 of our Saffron and Sage Ritual Kit .  If you haven't already picked one up, now is the best time to do so! Buy a Ritual Kit now and receive a free Charcoal Konjac Sponge!

Ok, now that you have your kit ready, and you've started day 1 in the morning, you can set aside Purify.  Please note that if you are going to go outside then you should use Purify to remove any environmental pollutants that you come in contact with.  Just because you aren't wearing makeup doesn't mean that you aren't coming in contact with citywide pollutants that can only be broken down via oil cleansing.

With that being said, let's start by washing our face with Clarify!  Simply pump twice onto your Charcoal Konjac Sponge or hand and work into your face.  Pat dry and then apply Nourish, our versatile vitamin, mineral, and active rich hyaluronic acid serum.  Once you've applied it, wait a few seconds for your skin to feel “tacky”.  You'll know it's time to move onto the next step when your fingers feel a slight “sticky resistance” to the touch.  Don't worry, this is normal and means that it's working.

Next, you'll apply your Restore.  Simply apply a pea sized to dime sized amount to your face and gently work it in.  I always like to apply it to my under-eye first and then spread from there as I am prone to dark circles under my eyes.  It makes an excellent eye cream due to its high niacin content!

Once your moisturizer is absorbed, apply one to two pumps of Glow, our CoQ10 infused finishing oil. Keep in mind that while the oil is orange, it will not leave you orange, however, it will leave you with soft, supple skin!  If you are going to venture outside, regardless of weather, you need to wear a mineral sunscreen.

That's it!  You're ready to face your day!

So, let's talk about what to expect.  Typically, when you go makeup free the first thing you will notice is that makeup can leave you with an uneven skin tone.  This is due to variations in makeup and UV exposure.  During the first week you'll also notice some “purging”.  The term 'skin purging' refers to a reaction to an active ingredient that is increasing skin cellular turnover rate.  So what you may see is a furthering of skin tone unevenness until about day 28.  That's because your skin works on a 28 day (give or take) cycle, much like a female's menstrual cycle.  This reaction is totally normal and you should see it as the products working.  You may also notice some slight redness and skin flaking.  Again, this is part of the purging process and often a sign of niacin deficiency!  If redness persists past day 7 then please contact your skin consultant.  While allergic reactions are exceedingly rare, they do happen with natural products (for example if you are allergic to sunflower oil).

Your skin is very resilient and often skin issues can take anywhere from 1 to 6 twenty-eight day cycles to achieve optimal health.  So stick with it and don't forget to take selfies along the way to monitor your progress!
